A Chinese cinnabar lacquer circular box and cover, Ming dynasty and later, carved with flowers and leaves to the cover and underside, black lacquer interior, re-decorated and restored, diameter 17cm

We believe this to be a genuine Ming dynasty lacquer box which has been over-decorated, it is quite possible that all of the outer decoration has been re-moulded much later and may not be true lacquer underneath the outside red cinnabar coating, some flaking to the black lacquer on the interior.
