A Venetian bone and intarsia inlaid casket, 15th century, of sarcophagus form, the frieze carved in high relief with a group of figures in 15th century costume, the cover with bands of bone veneer and intarsia inlay in bone, horn and wood, surmounted by a bronze swing handle, gilt softwood carcase, length 7.5in., height 6.25in. with handle, possible later alterations

Compare a similar casket in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, museum no. 4719-1859 with identical groups of figures and carrying handle. Provenance: The artist Keeley Halswell (1832-91) acquired this casket in Venice in the late 19th century and it is mentioned on a Harrods inventory carried out in 1930; thence by family descent.
