Lot 781 , Early 20th century teak four poster bed(-)
An early 20th century teak four poster bed, constructed from a pair of single bedsteads, with fluted columns and uniting stretchers, W.7ft 2in. L.7ft
Estimate £40-60
This bed appears to have been constructed from a pair of single bedsteads, at no point on the base do the beds join, they are only linked by the four posts and the upper stretcher which looks to be a later alteration although not considerably so, colour is a slightly reddish almost mahogany tone which is probably because this bed is not made from oak but teak and most likely of colonial probably Indian construction. All the top rails have evenly spaced filled holes implying that a gallery or other decoration was applied to them at one time. There are some small areas of minor surface scratching, knocks and damage and little areas where the colour tone is slightly rubbed but overall this still has a good decorative appearance and as it is joined from two singles makes it into a good size double bed
Height to the top stretcher is 6ft 10in.
This bed requires a mattress and some sort of hangings for the top, probably originally something like a mosquito net rather than anything more ornate.
