Taplin used a thickish plaster to coat the carving and then a reddish brown paint. There are a number of cracks running through the painted plaster with some flaking. This is most prevalent where the wings meet the body both above and below. In addition there are lost patches of approx. 1in in diameter from higher up on the left wing and under the body. Some lesser flaking and cracking near the beak. Please email if you need more photos.
Signed and inscribed under the tail.
On a metal stem and treated wood plinth.
