An impressive Belle Epoque black opal and diamond pendant, early 20th century

An impressive Belle Epoque black opal and diamond pendant, early 20th century, set with a black opal measuring approximately 2.5 x 7.8 x 5.7mm, within a foliate frame, suspended from a ribbon bow, millegrain-set with circular-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum, to a platinum chain necklace, pendant length 5.2cm, necklace length 40cm, Austrian assay marks and French import assay marks for platinum
£3,000-5,000

Condition:
Black opal with dramatic play of colour, slight crazing to surface, overall in good condition. Diamonds bright and lively, totalling approximately 1.50 carats. Some minor wear to setting of opal, some darkened patches of solder where it has been attached to the foliate border. Opal might be a later addition, but method of attachment to foliate frame (with posts and fittings) suggests it is original to the design. Overall a beautiful and impressive pendant.
