A Victorian agate cameo brooch, second half 19th century, the oval cameo carved to depict a bust of the Capitoline Venus in profile, within frame designed in the Archaeological Revival style with bands of rope twist and grainti decoration, brooch length 3.8cm, cameo approximately 2.9 x 2.1cm

Condition:
Cameo nicely carved, in very high relief, in very good condition, with some very minor chipping to the edges of her shoulder and chest. Cameo is indistinctly inscribed to reverse, possibly 'pf af' in cursive lettering. Frame is likely gold (with a typical higher carat bloom to the surface), but unmarked, not tested and not guaranteed. Overall a beautiful example in good condition, gross weight approximately 16 grams.
