Condition:
The four volumes in generally similar condition. Original decorative cloth rubbed, scuffed and marked, with wear to edges and corners and some fraying and loss at spine ends; gilt generally bright. Hinges and endpapers split in places, with evidence of old repairs, bindings somewhat weakened but holding. All edges gilt, rubbed and dulled in places. Endpapers and preliminary leaves foxed, with variable scattered foxing, toning and occasional handling marks throughout; plates and illustrations generally clean and well preserved. Vol. II: steel engraving of Mount Tabor facing p.26 detached but present.
