A Chinese ruby ground water pot, 19th century, of compressed ovoid form, white glazed base, 8cm diameter, damaged wood cover and stand

Provenance - A. E. Bateman; thence by family descent.
Bateman was the representative for the prominent British merchant firm Dodwell & Co. in Kyobashi in the 1920s. The firm operated in Shanghai and Yokohama from the late 19th to mid 20th century, acting as a major import/export and shipping agent.

Wear to gilding on the rim, typical minor glaze imperfections, otherwise in good condition with no restoration, chips or cracks detected, the wood cover is broken and with some loose pieces we cannot guarantee this is complete.
