The book was published on November 14, 1883, with an initial print run of 2,000 copies. Of these, the first 750 were bound with advertisements dated ‘’5G-783’’ (July 1883), as seen in this copy. Editions featuring the July advertisements exist in various cloth colors, including green, red, and blue, with no confirmed precedence (see Carter, p. 154).
