Condition:
Cleaned and relined 20 to 30 years ago or so, canvas remains tight, paint now a little dirty with a fine but stable craquelure running throughout, later gilt gesso frame overpainted and now a little tatty, old Christie's number on the stretcher 554ZM, old hand inscribed letter applied to the stretcher suggesting the picture was bought for £500 many years ago, from a 'Hall in Lancaster' and attributing to Lely. Comes with a copy of a Christie's catalogue Important English Pictures November 24th 1978 Lot 68, fully attributed to Thomas Hudson and the property of Miss J L Threlfall which matches the name signed to the letter on the stretcher
