Lot 148 , An early 18th century oak six plank coffer, width 53cm, depth 33cm, height 33cm
An early 18th century oak six plank coffer, width 53cm, depth 33cm, height 33cm
£100-150
Condition:
Front and top have filled splits. Dark colour and finish good. No evidence that this has been reduced in width; the ends of the front and back have chip-carved detail and vertically incised lines, top to bottom and these look convincingly original - so rare size accepted. Sides have bowed outward a little, as shown; iron snape hinges are in the right place and undisturbed; an old horizontal split across the front board fortified by three nails. Baseboard only with signs of some old worm, not serious.
