Juliette Recamier was celebrated for her beauty and her many illustrious love affairs. Many artists portrayed her elegant looks but Chinard's bust is still considered the most successful. A terracotta version is in the Getty Museum of Art. Another was recently exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art in "Jefferson's America & Napoleon's France" celebrating the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial.
Condition:
Honest untouched condition, now rather dirty with small spots and other marks scattered throughout, minor chipping around the rectangular integral plinth but essentially good order.
