A Chinese inscribed white jade plaque, 19th century, carved in low relief and pierced with a bat in flight above a rock rising from wind-tossed waves, the reverse with a four-character seal inscribed ‘shoushan fuhai’ (mountain of longevity, ocean of fortune), all below clouds at the top, the stone with occasional tiny black speckles,

Provenance- from the collection of the vendor’s late father who collected Chinese works of art in Hong Kong from 1950 to the 1970s. He lived in Shanghai from 1947-48 and became a successful businessman living and working in Hong Kong from 1949 until his death in 1994. 6.3 cm high, excluding wood stand
