Lot 137 , A Derby porcelain figure of a fox, c.1810-30, H. 11.5cm
A Derby porcelain figure of a fox, c.1810-30, seated on a grassy rectangular plinth base, inscribed puce '5', H. 11.5cm
Estimate £100-150
cf. D. G. Rice, English Porcelain Animals of the 19th century, colour plate 26.
There is a tiny area of restoration to a splinter chip at the front of its left ear and there is some restoration presumably to a crack which runs across the join of his tail to his body and underneath by the join of his hind legs and his belly on the underside to the base with some re-painting further up on his hindquarters also. No evidence that the front legs have been restored or the tip of the tail. There is some wear to the gilding around the base and a glaze flake/splinter to the back right edge of the plinth, otherwise in reasonable condition.
