Provenance:
The Dennis G. Rice collection of fine Rockingham porcelain

As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.

Rockingham springer spaniel - tail has been broken and reglued with some old filler around the area, and there is a hairline crack to the top of the dogs right front leg, there is fine crazing to the glaze in places and the white porcelain glaze has some light brown patches to it in the firing.
Samson example is in good condition with typical minor losses to the flowers on the encrusted base, there is also some dirt ingrained on the biscuit edge of the foot.
