As well as being an avid collector of Rockingham ornamental porcelain and animal figures, Dr. Dennis G. Rice was an academic and wrote two key reference works on the subject – Rockingham Ornamental Porcelain (1965) and the Illustrated Guide to Rockingham Pottery & Porcelain (1971).
A number of the pieces illustrated in the books are offered below. The Rockingham animals figures in the collection are also published in Dennis G. Rice's companion books Dogs & Cats in English Porcelain and English Porcelain Animals of the 19th Century.
There is fine crazing to the glaze all over and pale brown staining to the edge and noticably to the back, there is also two hairline cracks at the top edge of the plaque and some occasional marks and scratches around the edges, there is a slight spur on the back of the glaze over the top of the red griffin mark, otherwise in reasonable condition.
