Oil on canvas relined many years ago, canvas remains tight, paint is very dirty with fine craquelure showing particularly through the flesh tones although framed to the oval the canvas is rectangular, a title plaque attached to the front gives the title as the Duchesse de St Croix with the attribution just being French School, ornate gilt gesso frame has a later rather dirty bronzed finish and signs of some old repairs, old Christie's stencil mark 73LK to the stretcher along with a Bonhams Lot no.49 for sale 23467.
