A Chinese amber brushwasher, Qing dynasty, finely carved with two rats clambering over gourds and a magnolia branch, the translucent amber of fairly even colour with typical crizzling, 7cm long

Provenance: by family repute formerly in the Arthur Flynn collection, purchased from Bluett's before 1980.


The translucent amber ranges from dark yellow through to a pale caramel colour in places with internal age crizzling all over, there is some occasional abrasions and tiny splinter chips to the edges of tendrils and leaves, otherwise in reasonable condition.
