Looks to be the original canvas, but maybe a very old reline, canvas remains flat and tight, paint might benefit from a light clean, and has some very fine but stable craquelure showing in the light buffish tones and the skin of the face, but overall looks to be in honest original condition, housed in probably the original gilt gesso frame which has suffered from a number of losses and also under glass, title plaque applied to the frame, old label verso for George Hughes of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
