Lot 977 , 19th Century English School Set of three sporting scenes; 16 x 22in (2) and 14.5 x 20.5in.
19th Century English School
oils on canvas
Set of three sporting scenes; gentlemen setting out for a shoot, setters flushing game and drinking in the woods at night
16 x 22in (2) and 14.5 x 20.5in.
Estimate £700-1,000
All three oils have suffered from neglect and require varying degrees of restoration, image of sportsman setting out - canvas is a little saggy, a fine craquelure runs throughout and stretcher marks show particularly across the top and down the right, some very light surface scratching just going into the paint, housed in what looks to be the original gilt frame.
Image of sportsman and gun dogs - one dented tear knocked through near the top left corner, another small hole in the centre of the sky, otherwise canvas saggy with stretcher mark and cracking in the paint throughout, original frame chipped around the edges
Third image is a little smaller than the others, canvas is saggy, a scuffed scratch showing to the left of 12 o'clock, stretcher marks and craquelure through the paint, frame looks to be original again with some small chipping, overall a good lot that should restore to good effect.
