A George I and later walnut double dome bureau bookcase, with two mirrored doors enclosing a fitted interior over candle slides, the fall enclosing a well, two short and two graduated long drawers, W.3ft 3in. D.1ft 10in. H.7ft 4in.

Overall this piece has a mid to light golden walnut tone, the whole piece has been extensively restored probably 20 - 30 years ago or more, three brass finials look like later replacements as do the square blocks that they sit upon, arched double pediment has old inactive worm holes, left door mirror has a crack across the top, mirror plates show some oxidisation and look to be old but probably not original, sides with signs of old splitting and wear but nothing serious, internal matrix to the top looks like a later replacement although well made, backboard is painted black on the inside and has a separate boarding running at the top, see our photographs for this, key for the top door lock does not fit, two candleslides may well be later additions, base bureau with some light cracking and small damages to the sides, good at the front, key to the fall works, interior in good order matches that above maybe later embellished, certainly has been extensively repolished, drawer fronts and dummy section to the well show signs of numerous changes of handles over the years with plugged holes where at one each time short drawer had a pair of handles and equally at another time had oval plates, the inside of the drawer fronts confirm this with corresponding plugged holes, base moulding with some scuffing and chipping, bun feet are later. Overall a good looking piece of furniture but not 100% original.
