A Japanese gold damascened iron box and hinged cover, Meiji period, of a rounded square form, the top decorated with a dragon clasping a pearl, the borders and sides with a thousand leaf design, mark to base 'Fukui' in a fan-shaped device, 5.5cm

The box has the odd occasional minor scratch otherwise in good condition with no losses to the decoration or damage, the interior is gilt engraved with birds in flight and wading birds on a river, there is slight wear to the base consistent with age.
