Lot 194 , A Chelsea gardener candlestick figure, c.1760-5, 22cm, restorations and later fixing

A Chelsea gardener candlestick figure, c.1760-5, 22cm, restorations and later fixing

A Chelsea 'gardener' candlestick figure, c.1760-5, the figure holding a spade in his left hand and supporting a sconce and drip pan on his head, on a floral encrusted scrollwork base, 22cm, restorations and later fixing
Estimate £200-300

There is restoration to one side of the nozzle, there is some restoration to some of the flowers on the base, there is restoration to some leaves on the stem which would lead us to believe that it may have been broken at this point and reglued although we cannot see any restoration on the legs of the figure, there is a later fixing showing underneath so this may confirm the fact that it has been broken at the stem and a couple of firing cracks showing in the biscuit beneath.
