Sir George Ferguson Bowen. A Victorian Government black leather despatch box, by Wickwar & Co, with gilt VR cipher and inscription "Sir G F Bowen Sir George Ferguson Bowen (1821-1899) a colonial administrator, posts included 1st Governor of Queensland and later, Victoria, 5th Governor of New Zealand, etc., together with a large collection of family related correspondence and photographs and 8 newspapers dated 1926 relating to the General Strike, together with an album of photographs of members of the Chamberlain and Bowen families, including Joseph Chamberlain and Richard Chamberlain, both former Mayors of Birmingham (1873-76) and 1879-80, respectively. Joseph Chamberlain was the father of Neville Chamberlain, also a Mayor of Birmingham (1915-7) and later Prime Minister (1937-40).
