Lot 489 , A George III bright cut engraved silver oval tea caddy by Hester Bateman, 10.5 oz.
A George III bright cut engraved silver oval tea caddy by Hester Bateman, with engraved armorial and decorated with floral swags and ribbon scrolls, the hinged lid with turned finial, London, 1785, height 5.75in, (no key), 10.5 oz.
Estimate £1,500-2,000
There is a seam line running down the back of the caddy and from the interior there appears to be an old professional small repair, in the form of silver solder, which is also just visible on the exterior. There are a couple of very minor nicks around the top rim of the base. There are engraved initials to the base, just below the duty mark. The decoration is generally still quite good, conducive with age and use. Hall markes clear, although some rubbing has occurred to the marks on the lid and the maker's mark on the base.
