oil on mahogany panel,
Scene off the Dutch coast,
signed and dated 1845,
18 x 24in., unframed
Estimate £7,000-10,000
Oil on wooden panel untouched for many years, overall paint is rather dirty with some discolouration to the varnish, painted onto a mahogany panel, one very fine 2 inch split showing at 9 o'clock, this appears to go through the paint but does not go through the panel, other light surface splits or cracks that again do not go through the panel are showing towards the top right corner at 2 o'clock, just above the sails of the main barge where there is an inverted L shape crack and a further 1.5 inch vertical crack, at the bottom of the work in the sea there are a number of fine horizontal cracks ranging from 6 - 12 or more inches in length, these all appear to be in the paint rather than the panel, signed and dated lower right corner, one or two small chips to the paint most notably near the lower left corner on the bottom margin, rubbing from the mount showing around all of the work running approx. 0.25 inch into it, this work is not framed, old Parker Gallery label retained verso.
