Note: Having served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army during WWI, Flatter emigrated to Britain in 1934. He began producing anti-Nazi propaganda cartoons for the Ministry of Information in 1940, following a spell of internment on the Isle of Man as, mistakenly, an 'enemy alien'. At the end of the war he was invited to attend the Nuremberg Trials as an official British war artist.
