Lot 125 , A carved wood figure of a seated ancient Egyptian woman, 12in.
A carved wood figure of a seated ancient Egyptian woman, with inlaid eyes and later arms, on ebonised stand, 12in.
Estimate £100-200
Little is known about the origins of this piece which came for sale from a deceased estate. The timber has a pine like consistency and grain, one arm is detached, the other looks like it has been repaired, both with some kind of putty like material, tip of the thumb is missing from the right hand, also both arms having pegging at the elbow and shoulder as if they were once articulated, right eye is inlaid with metal which has a verdigris tint to it, left eye is missing, just above the eyes in the centre of the hair is a further tiny fragment of metal equally with a verdigris tint, from the tip of the head is raised prunt with a hole in the middle as if for mounting something, one split running naturally through the timber in the back of the hair, overall a slightly dirty grubby appearance, fairly competently mounted on an ebonised wood stand which shows some splitting and appears to date to c.1900.
