Three Japanese cloisonne enamel dishes, Meiji period, including a pair with a bird in flight on a turquoise blue ground, 30.5cm, and another with two pheasants amid flowers, worked in silver and copper wire on a turquoise blue ground, flowerhead banded border, 31cm

Starting with the pair of dishes - the example with the birds mouth closed has numerous stress cracks to the pale blue enamel ground and across the tail feather of the bird, it can be seen from the underside that the dish has been knocked and mis-shapen slightly with similar stress cracks. The pair to the dish with the birds mouth open again has stress cracks and all over staining to the pale blue enamel.
Third dish has typical minor pitting to the enamels, the pale blue ground is mottled and variegated, typical minor pitting to the enamels in manufacture, the underside of the dish has been heavily scoured to the scaled border of the broad rim.
