A WW2 Naval group of six medals to Lieut Commander N.B.J. Stapleton, R.N.R and a Knight Commander of the Order of Aviz to his uncle comprising 1939-45 star, Atlantic Star, Burma Star, W.M, Naval G.S.M, with Near East clasp, R.N.V.R decoration with miniatures and related ephemera and a Portuguese Military Order of Aviz breast badge to Commander Gregory Stapleton, R.N. who was Naval attache to Lisbon in 1918.

Commander Stapleton attended Christ's Hospital School and trained at H.M.S Conway in the 1920's before serving in the R.N.R in the 1930's. During the Second World War he served on H.M.S Southern Pride, H.M.S Betony with his last wartime command on H.M.S Derg. Following the war he served in the R.F.A commanding R.F.A Resurgent and R.F.A Tideflow. He was the author of Steam Picket Boats (Terence Dalton Ltd 1980) and his correspondence with H.R.H, the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (who wrote the foreword) and Earl Mountbatten of Burma is included with this lot.
