Stevens was a self-taught artist who ultimately achieved great success as a designer of posters during the 1960s and 1970s. The London Transport Museum holds numerous examples of his design work. His paintings are rare at auction but a closely related landscape composition from 1949, 'St.Paul', is in the collection of Salford Museum and Art Gallery (BBC Your Paintings / Harry Stevens).
